Lab-Grown Diamond Wholesale Prices in Europe: 2026 Trade Guide

A pricing guide for European jewellery retailers, manufacturers, and D2C brands.

Quick answer: Wholesale lab-grown diamond prices fell 13% year-on-year in Q2 2026, but the pace of decline is slowing (Edahn Golan, Q2 2026 LGD Wholesale Price List). For trade buyers that means a lower cost base with less holding risk. LabGems supplies both IGI-certified and non-certified lab-grown diamonds from Antwerp, priced in EUR, with a €500 minimum and next-business-day dispatch on in-stock goods.

The 2026 headline: wholesale down 13%, decline decelerating

According to the Q2 2026 LGD Wholesale Price List, compiled by diamond industry analyst Edahn Golan, wholesale lab-grown diamond prices declined 13% year-on-year. The index has fallen 96% since tracking began in July 2018 (Professional Jeweller).

The trajectory matters more than the headline. Golan previously reported a 14% year-on-year decline for Q1 2026 and 26% across 2025, so the rate of decline is easing (JCK). Low prices with a slowing decline is the favourable combination: you capture the lower cost base without the same risk of holding stock that loses further double-digit value.

Wholesale prices by carat tier

The direction of movement reversed depending on carat weight and shape. All figures from the Q2 2026 LGD Wholesale Price List.

Segment Q2 2026 YoY movement Sourcing implication
1.00 ct rounds Up 1% Stable; predictable margin planning
1.50-1.99 ct rounds Down 11% Softer cost base for mid-size centre stones
2.00 ct rounds Down 20% Steepest round decline; strongest margin opportunity
Fancy shapes (average) Down 17% Hearts, marquises, ovals, pears fell further than rounds

The stones that fell hardest, larger rounds and fancy shapes, historically carried the highest wholesale margins, which left them most exposed to pressure. The 1-carat round firmed by 1%. Check live availability on the certified diamond search platform.

What sits behind every wholesale quote

Factor What it controls
Carat weight Base cost per stone; not linear across tiers
Certification Certified goods carry a premium over non-certified parcels
Cut quality and make Optical performance and sell-through speed
Colour and clarity Position on the grading scale
Growth method HPHT typically trades at a discount to CVD

The most common trade-buyer mistake is comparing quotes on carat weight alone. A parcel of IGI-certified, well-cut CVD rounds and a parcel of non-certified HPHT goods can sit far apart per carat and both be fairly priced.

Certified and non-certified: choosing the right goods

LabGems supplies both. Certified stones carry an IGI report and command a premium, and they are the right choice where your customer expects independent grading, typically centre stones and higher-value pieces. Non-certified goods price lower and suit melee, accent stones, and volume work where a report per stone is not commercially necessary.

The decision is a margin decision, not a quality one. Ask for both when you request a quote and price each against its end use.

Why lower wholesale cost widens your retail margin

Wholesale prices have fallen faster than retail prices, and that gap is your margin. Retailers have not passed the full wholesale decline through to the consumer. Golan notes that lab-growns have been defying traditional supply-and-demand expectations, with prices falling even though consumer demand has remained strong, and that total sales of lab-grown diamond jewellery at US specialty retailers increased 24% during the second quarter, driven by higher unit sales. Demand is holding while cost is falling. For the full retail-positioning breakdown, see the wholesale buying guide for retailers.

The one variable to watch

The wildcard in the Q2 data is that rough lab-grown prices increased. Golan describes these rises as opportunistic moves in a consolidating market rather than a response to consumer demand, and notes it will take several months to see whether they pass through the supply chain or meet resistance (Professional Jeweller). The practical read reinforces stocking now rather than assuming prices fall indefinitely.
