“A Diamond Is A Token Of Love”
EDUCATION

How Are Lab-Created Diamonds Grown?
There are two common methods for creating lab-grown diamonds:
1) High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT)
2) CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition)
For high quality wearable gems, CVD is the most popular method, which starts out with a tiny diamond “seed.” Each seed is made of a repeating lattice of carbon atoms — just like all diamonds.
- It all starts with a tint diamond “seed” which is made of a repeating lattice of carbon atoms (just like any diamond)
- The seeds are placed inside an oven that zaps natural gas into a plasma of carbon
- The plasma of carbon sticks to each seed and slowly builds up a diamond, atom by atom
- It can take up to 10-12 weeks to bake a proper sized diamond
- After being grown, the diamonds are cut into rough shapes with a high-power laser
- Just like natural diamonds, our diamonds artisans polish the gems for faceting
- Et Voila! You’ve got yourself a sustainable & conflict-free diamond!
The Conscious Diamond
CONFLICT-FREE
A lot of mined diamonds are sold in order to fund armed conflict. We believe a diamond should be a token of love, not war. LabGems diamonds are free from wars, human rights violations and child labour, all things that poison the mined diamond industry.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Diamond mining is causing a tremendous toll on our environment. Poor regulation and irresponsibility severely damages land & water, causes soil erosion & deforestation and emits harmful carbon into the air. It has forced local communities and animals to relocate.
FAIR LABOUR PRACTICES
The majority of mined diamonds are harvested in factories that exploit workers, lack precautionary measures, and practice child labour. By no means do we support this. Our diamond artisans experience fair practices and work in great conditions.
Fair Pricing
Mined diamonds come with an unfair price tag. Diamond prices are largely controlled by diamond cartels, and are not a fair reflection of diamond scarcity. We want to break the tradition of cartel pricing and generate fair market valuations. Lab-grown diamonds are up to 70% less in price and have significantly increased transparency between the buyer and seller.

Are Lab-Grown Diamonds A New Phenomenon?
Diamonds were first created in a lab at General Electric in the 1950’s. However they weren’t gem quality diamonds that could be used in jewelry. The process has been used ever since to produce industrial diamond for abrasives and manufacturing. Over the past few decades, methods have been perfected, but only in the last few years has it been possible to produce large white gem-quality diamonds that meet or surpass natural diamonds in terms of desirability and beauty. So while lab-grown diamonds aren’t a new phenomenon, they have become viable for fine jewelry only recently.
How Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Created?
LabGems diamonds are created by replicating certain favorable conditions growing crystal carbon. A sliver of an existing Type IIA diamond, otherwise known as a “seed”, is placed in an environment that contains a specific recipe of carbon compounds. The seed is then subjected to a process called Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), wherein the crystals are formed from hot plasma in layers, like semiconductors. What results is a real created rough diamond with all the natural properties of a mined diamond.
What Are Type IIA Diamonds?
The most famous and brilliant natural diamonds in the world are IIA! The Koh-I-Noor, The Elizabeth Taylor Diamond (Krupp), The Regent Diamond and The Star of The South are all famous Type IIA diamonds. Only the best 1 to 2% of mined diamonds can be called Type IIA. They are the purest and most thermally conductive of all diamonds. As natural diamonds rise toward the surface of the earth from the depths, they are usually deformed or form imperfectly taking on certain impurities. Type IIA stones are almost entirely devoid of these imperfections and deformations. All LabGems created diamonds are Type IIA.
How Long Does It Take To Create A Lab-Grown Diamond?
Depending on the color and size, it can take between 60-120 days to grow and create a diamond from a seed in the laboratory.
Do Lab-Grown Diamonds Test Positive In A Diamond Test?
Yes, these are real diamonds, pure crystallized carbon grown in lab. LabGems diamonds will pass all tests used to confirm a pure carbon diamond.
